- DESCRIPTION

Mimic is an experimental video directed by Lucio Arese with music of Yu Miyashita. An hyperdense block of objects driven by music collides, collapses, spread into random formations and disintegrates at frantic speed.
Shot into a cattle market, the film rides the verge between nonsense, random noise and organic, structured audiovisual events, enhancing the plastic clashes of a digital inserted foreground into an old and rusty environment. Humorous, lunatic, cartoonish, nightmarish, Mimic is an attempt to reach a complete unity between music and motion picture in an epoch of violent changes.

- WORD

Campaign - "Arese’s "mimic" is not a portrait and contains no narrative. Instead, his film – a promo for the electronic-music composer Yu Miyashita – earned its place on the showcase by dint of its sheer technical difficulty. "Basically, it’s like: ‘How the fuck did he do that?’" Gulliman says. "It’s just a stimulating artistic piece." Eslinger adds: "It’s a piece of video art that I’d expect to see in a gallery – a bunch of super-CGI’d 3D models that have been put through a shredder, and occasionally zapped with a Taser in time to music."

GoSee - "if you enjoy good post-production, you can’t miss Lucio Varese’s pixel inferno…"

Shoot - "If you tried to watch this kind of imagery for too long, your brain would hurt," quipped Eslinger. "But as it is, this experimental video is crafted perfectly in time and space."

stash - "Plodding sleepily thru a rainy Monday morning in New York, I was jolted wide-awake by this experimental CG music video from Italian director/architect/designer Lucio Arese based on the music of Yu Miyashita. Full screen highly recommended."

The Creators Project - "If you wanted a frenetic, deranged experimental video to watch, which doesn’t need you to focus on a narrative or wonder what it’s trying to convey, then this is it. Called Mimic, the video is directed by Lucio Arese with music by Yu Miyashita and it features scuttling, flying shapes darting about in time with the glitchy noise music.
Like digital creatures whose circuits have blown, the shapes erupt and mutate across the screen while screeches and cackles give a sonic accompaniment that will rupture through your reality. The creator of the video explains it like this:
A hyperdense block of objects driven by music collides, collapses, spreads into random formations and disintegrates at frantic speed. Shot in a cattle market, the film rides the verge between nonsense, random noise, and organic, structured audiovisual events, enhancing the plastic clashes of a digital inserted foreground into an old and rusty environment. Humorous, lunatic, cartoonish, nightmarish, Mimic is an attempt to reach complete unity between music and motion picture in an epoch of violent changes.
In short, it’s totally nuts, and lots of fun."
