Yu MIYASHITA

b. 1984 Yamanashi Japan. Currently lives and works in Berlin Deutschland.

Artist, music producer, film composer, audio post production engineer, drummer and DJ, also known mainly as Yaporigami. His activities span a wide range of fields, including feature films, documentaries, commercials, fashion shows, installations, theaters, museums, and media art festivals. His works revolve around human and dualistic themes such as good and evil, sanity and madness, blessings and curses, and explores the creation of musical works that encompass these contradictory poles. Like life and death. Not everything or nothing but everything and nothing.

One of the most notable contributions to cinema is the soundtrack to Lemohang Jeremiah Mosese's film This Is Not A Burial, It's A Resurrection (2019). The film premiered at the Venice Biennale and has won more than 25 awards at international film festivals, including Sundance, USA. He has composed the music for films of another:, which consists of architectural photographer Laurian Ghinitoiu and film director Arata Mori, that collaborate with architectural offices (BIG, OMA, SO-IL, etc.) and artists (Chiharu Shiota, etc.). He has produced music for five seasons of the fashion brand VIVIANO's shows.

主にYaporigamiという名義でも知られるアーティスト、電子音楽家、映画音楽作曲家、ミキシング・マスタリングエンジニア、ドラマー、DJ。その活動は長編映画、ドキュメンタリー、コマーシャル、ファッションショー、インスタレーション、劇場、美術館、メディアアートフェスティバル等多岐に渡る。善と悪、正気と狂気、祝福と呪い等、人間的であり且つ二元論的な題目を軸に、それらの相反する両極を内包する音楽作品の創作を探求する。生であり死、全てであり無、の様な。

映画への貢献で特筆すべきものの一つに、Lemohang Jeremiah Mosese監督作品「This Is Not A Burial, It's A Resurrection (2019)」のサウンドトラックがある。ヴェネチア・ビエンナーレでプレミア上映されたこの作品は、米サンダンスを含む国際映画祭で25以上の賞を受賞。建築写真家Laurian Ghinitoiuと映画監督森あらたの二人から成るanother:の、建築オフィス（BIG、OMA、SO-IL等）やアーティスト（塩田千春等）とのコラボレーション映像の音楽を担当。ファッションブランドVIVIANOのショー用音楽を現在までに5期分手掛ける。

“「音楽は言葉に出来ない」という文句はドイツロマン派の詩人が言い出した事らしいが、"言葉"が"意味"を意味するものだとするならば、意味としての楽音具体音や、その構成の歴史的背景を記述する事は可能だったかもしれないし、主観的だとしか思えない曲想に対しても、今や（イデアルな）複数の標語が存在している。現在に於いては音楽を言葉にする事は、それをそのままトレースしたものではないにせよ、不可能な事では無いようである。 この作品 Yu Miyashita "An Arc" は、目紛しく動く音像や切断が繰り返される音響に注目するのならば、ある音を録音加工再構成しそこに新しい意味や響きを見出す、具体音楽から連なる歴史の影響を感じられるだろうし、その意味の衝突や重層に、単なる羅列では済まされないある曲想を見出す事も出来るのかもしれない。 しかしながら、これはラップトップミュージックのある到達点であると思うのだが、波形としてしか実在しない、あまりに抽象的な音の連続は、その背後に隠れる"意味"を見出す事を敢えて拒み、即ち"意味"からの逃走を繰り返し続けているように聴こえるし、そしてその響きは複数の層となりながらも、単一の平面を持ちえず、多面体として、時として複数化しながら、しかし連続を保ちながら、響き続けている。その様は名指されるような、既成の曲想へと回収されるのを拒んでさえいるようでもある。 なのでここに、残念ながら、私が何かを書き付ける事がこの作品に対して何らかの位置を占める事すら出来ないだろうし、修辞による漸近線すら描けないように思える。幾度となくこの音源を聴いて解ったのは、この音楽は決して音色や位相に関して言及する事で片付けられるようなものではない、という事くらいだった…。 "ある弧"と名づけられたこの作品は、その名の通り、決して全体を把握する事のできない巨大な音楽という"円"の確実な、しかし不定の、"弧"として存在しているようである。"

“このコメントを書くにあたって…というわけではないが、氏には事前に色々とお話をする機会があった。制作に対するスタンスから美の価値基準に至るまで、決して長いやりとりではなかったが、実のある対話であったと思う。対話の途中で自身の楽曲がいわゆる普通の意味で「音楽的」ではないという発言があり、以前何度か聴かせて頂いた楽曲をイメージすると―決して悪い意味ではなく、確かに…と頷けるものがあったが、今作を全部通して聴いた第一印象は真逆で、”ポップだな”というものであった。何度か聴いていく内に、時間軸に対しての神経の使い方が非常に絶妙で、それによってすんなりと音が入り込んでくるところがポップな印象を与えているのではないか、と自分なりに思い至った。もはや古典的な美術評論といっても差し支えないであろう某論文のタイトルに准えれば、アヴァンギャルドさとキッチュさのバランス感覚が良い（その論文ではキッチュさは忌むべきものとして描かれてはいたが）。さて、くだんの氏とのやりとりでは人によって美の捉え方が異なることの問題にも話が至ったのだが、僕は単純にこの作品を美しいと思うし、恐らくこの作品を手に取る人の大半はそう感じるはずだ。実験的な音の中に、普遍的な美の一端を垣間見ることが出来る良い作品だと思う。”

“この作品を聞いて、宮下さんの細部をコントロールすることへの尋常ではない欲望を感じました。通常の経過していく時間の流れが無限に分割され、その極小地点から更にミクロな地点に向け音がエディットされているような感覚を受けました。これは宮下さんというアーティストによる異常なまでの対象物（時間、音）の操作であり、人工的に構築された完全物を現出させようという試みなのかもしれません。ただ、一つ興味深いのが、この人工的構築物が、どこか神的な崇高性を帯びているように感じられたことです。徹底的に人間により管理された人工物が、それとはまるで反対にあるかのような感覚を宿してくる。これは文字を作り、図書館を作った人間が、論理的には有限であるが、ほぼ無限となる図書館の中で生きる、ボルヘスのバベルの図書館における状態のようでもあります。また、先日たまたま開いた本の中にカール・ラッカートという宗教学者の現実を感覚する位相についての表があり、人間の力やサイズを超えていく現実の層と、それとは反対に人間の管理下にある層が一つの線にて図解化されていました。その図では、「（人間による）支配」と「人間の降伏」がそれぞれ左と右の対極に位置づけられ、その真ん中に親しさ、分析、魅了などが位置づけられています。この作品を聞いた時の感覚を、この図解に当てはめつつ応用してみると、左端と右端が円環状につながっている状態、と言えそうです。先に述べた極限までの音のエディットに加え、アルバムの随所で鳴らされるメロディーが、どれも抽象的で現実と乖離していくような印象を与えているのは、正にこの「支配」と「人間の降伏」が繋がった状態であるからなのかもしれません。通常、電子音楽におけるメロディーは親しさの感覚を引き起こし、どちらかといえば人間世界の側（支配）に位置付けられる気がしますが、このアルバムで鳴らされるメロディーは抽象的で秘匿された「あちら側」（人間の降伏）の様子を示唆しているようです。人工的で崇高な音楽、私の一先ずの結論はこの作品は「人工天国」を現出させる一つの音楽実践ではないか、というものになります。”
